Practice Hints for Parents
When we say they must play a song ten times a day, we mean they must play the song ten times without an error. Whenever an error occurs, that particular rendition does not count. When they realize that errors do not count they strive harder for perfection.
In the first few weeks help your child to prepare for the lesson:
( a ) Keep instrument, music and stand in a convenient spot.
( b ) The location or 'convenient spot' should be the same every day.
Whenever necessary help them with the instrument, amplifier, etc., but encourage them to do everything themselves as soon as possible.
A successful student is always the product of a team of three: The teacher - the pupil and the parent.
Serious students take lessons all year with only two or three weeks off during the summer. Those who take off longer, usually find that they will have to spend a month practising to get back to the level of playing they were at before the summer.
